CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After days of sometimes violent protests over the fatal officer-involved shooting of Keith Lamont Scott in Charlotte, Officer Josh Wood was inspired by the connection he made with three local girls during the unrest.

According to his Facebook post detailing the encounter, Wood was directing traffic when he heard a voice say, “Sir!”

He looked across the street to see three young black girls motioning for him to walk over to them, but he couldn’t because he was directing traffic.

“After telling her I’m sorry I can’t, she said ‘well can I walk over there?’ I laughed and told her if she wanted to, she better hurry because I wasn’t holding traffic much longer,” Wood wrote. “So she, along with her two friends, ran across the road to the front of my patrol vehicle.”

The girls asked Wood to take a photo with them and their “All Lives Matter” signs. She told him they were tired of all the “stuff” that is happening in America and they wanted it all to go away.

“If we would all take a step back and have the courage and passion as these three young ladies, we might actually begin to make a difference in America.”
