Three-year-old Allie Stenzel is very attached to her blankie. And now, thanks to a kind Greenfield police officer, she’s been reunited with it after a traumatic night apart.

On Wednesday, the blanket was accidentally left at the Greenfield Public Library, which closed before Jessica Stenzel, Allie’s mom, could retrieve it. Allie toughed out the night without it, but in the morning Jessica learned that the library was closed until Sunday due to furloughs and the Christmas holiday.

From the moment she was born, Allie has been attached to the handmade blanket that’s pink with green frogs on it. “It is truly her best friend. It’s a musthave,” her mom said.

Not knowing where else to turn, Jessica called Greenfield Police and asked if they could get inside the library and rescue the blanket. A little while later, Sgt. Sean Licht called her back and said, “Is the blanket pink with green frogs?” “It was just the words I wanted to hear,” Jessica said.

Sgt. Licht then drove the blanket to the Stenzels’ south side Milwaukee home, where he was greeted by a hug from Jessica and a box of chocolate from a relieved little girl.
