KNOXVILLE, Tenn. —Cayden McCowan, son of the late Blount County Deputy Greg McCowan, graduated from high school while wearing his father’s badge, WVLT reported.

Several members of McCowan’s shift attended the ceremony on May 10 to show their support, according to the report.

“Sheriff James Berrong and all of us at BCSO are proud of you and your accomplishments, Cayden, and we look forward to watching you achieve your dreams!” the Blount County Sheriff’s Office stated.

Greg McCowan was killed in February after being shot during a traffic stop. The suspect, Kenneth DeHart, was subsequently arrested in Knoxville and faces 21 charges. He is currently held without bond, according to the report.
