WASHINGTON — The FBI announced today the additions of Jose Manuel Garcia Guevara, an alleged murderer and rapist, and Walter Lee Williams, a former university professor and an alleged child sex predator, to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.
These two men represent the 499th and 500th additions to the list, respectively, since the Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list was established in March 1950.
During a ceremony held near FBI Headquarters, FBI Assistant Director of Public Affairs Mike Kortan said, “The Top Ten program relies heavily on the help of citizens and the media. Without their help over the years, the FBI could not have located many of these individuals.”
Thus far, 469 fugitives have been apprehended or located — with 155 of those coming as a result of citizen cooperation.
Ron Hosko, assistant director of FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division, added, “This has been a tremendously successful program, but one that is dependent on the willingness of concerned citizens with information to come forward and offer us their assistance.”
As the newest additions to the Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, the FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading directly to the arrest of either Guevara or Williams.
