NEW YORK — A retired NYPD cop shot himself to death in his car Sunday on Staten Island, police said Tuesday.

Officer Edward Rosa, 48, who left the police department in 2012, was found with a gunshot wound to his chest at a park-and-ride transit center at Arthur Kill Road and Richmond Ave. in Eltingville about 6 p.m. Sunday.

His body was found less than a mile away from his home.

Rosa joined the NYPD in 1992. He was last assigned to Transit District 30.

Rosa’s death comes after nine active duty officers shot themselves to death so far this year.
