CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer shot and wounded a juvenile after he allegedly pointed a gun at the officer during a foot chase on Chicago’s far South Side late Wednesday, police said.
The shooting occurred around 10:45 p.m. in the 13000 block of South Drexel Avenue, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.
The situation unfolded after Calumet District officers responded to a call of a person with a gun in the area and observed several males on Drexel, police said. One of the suspects fled and during a chase pulled a gun and pointed it at the officers.
“In fear of his life, the officer fired his weapon and strikes the offender,” police said in the statement.
A weapon was recovered on the scene, according to police. A spokesman for the Independent Police Review Authority said they were called to investigate the shooting.
