NEW YORK — Two NYPD officers rescued a pit bull that was found on a highway in the Queens borough of New York City with a broken leg Monday morning.
Officers Mezzoiuso and Morina-Blocker responded to a 911 call reporting the dog was spotted in the middle of the four-lane highway, according to NBC New York.
Police believe the dog, who they’ve named “Rocky” was struck on the highway, and suffered a broken leg.
The officers placed their patrol car in front of the dog to block traffic and moved the dog to the side of the road. They then took the dog to a nearby veterinarian for treatment.
An owner for the dog has not come forward and police are investigating how he ended up on the highway.
