DODGE CITY, Kan.- A former Dodge City police officer is being sued by a woman who says he raped her last year while he was on duty.
Normando Guyton had met the woman, Veronica Ortiz, of Dodge City, at a hotel bar the evening of Sept. 29, 2005, so he could interview her about an apparent domestic disturbance involving her and her husband.
According to the lawsuit, Guyton talked to the woman for about an hour, may have bought her alcohol and drove her to a rodeo arena’s grounds, where they had sex.
The suit says Ortiz had drank too much to knowingly consent. She filed an incident report the next day. Guyton, an officer since 2003, was terminated less than a week later. No criminal charges are pending against him.
The suit, which asks for $75,000 in damages, also names the Dodge City Police Department and Chief John Ball as defendants.
