An off-duty Omaha police sergeant fired his gun Friday at two people attempting to rob a bank near 84th and F Streets.
Omaha police were called to the attempted robbery at Great Western Bank, 4140 S. 84th St., shortly before 9:30 a.m.
Two suspects entered the vestibule of the bank wearing dark-colored ski masks, police said. At least one was armed with a gun, police said.
As they tried entering the bank’s main lobby, Sgt. Harold Scott, who was working off-duty at the bank, confronted the men and fired his gun at them, police said.
The men then fled in a white van that was reported stolen Friday. Police later found the vehicle abandoned at 4614 S. 88th St., less than one mile from the bank.
Police do not know if either suspect was injured in the shooting.
Scott joined the Omaha Police Department in 1996.
