EVANSTON, Ill. — An off-duty cop is getting high praise after rescuing a man attempting to jump from a sixth story ledge.
WGN-TV reports Detective Ken Carter was leaving a restaurant after having dinner there Sunday when his fiancé noticed a man peering over the ledge.
Carter called for backup and made the six-story climb up a parking garage to come to the 22-year-old’s rescue.
“He kept saying he was going to jump. At that point I felt I had to act.” Carter told WGN-TV.
Carter was able to grab the man as other uniformed officers distracted the would-be jumper.
