By Police1 Staff

Patrolman Glen Agee of the Jackson (Miss.) Police Department was shot and killed by a fleeing prisoner on Friday, August 6, 2010. Agee and another officer had arrested the suspect, who Police1 has learned is believed to be a Gangster Disciple, for aggravated assault, domestic violence, and possession of firearm by a felon. According to ODMP.org, the man was handcuffed and belted into the back seat of the squad car but was able to escape the vehicle when it stopped at a traffic signal.

The Mississippi Clarion-Ledger reported that the offender, 24-year-old Latwan Smith, convinced one of the officers to lower a window in the patrol car by complaining he was having trouble breathing” and subsequently fled into a wooded area.

As Agee, 31, struggled with Smith in a canal, Smith grabbed the officer’s firearm, and shot Agee two times in the face. Smith fled but was later found, apprehended, and delivered directly to the Hinds County Detention Center.

According to WLBT-TV, on the day he was murdered, Agee wrote a post on his Facebook page that read, “God promised us life on the other side. But the question is which side do you want to be on? The pit of fire or the land that flows with milk and honey. Today is the day that we need to encourage each other to live the Godly life.”

Officer Agee had served with the Jackson Police Department for only two months and had previously served with the Jackson State University Police Department.
