FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A deputy who was struck by a 92-year-old driver Sept. 18 succumbed to his injuries Wednesday.

According to the Winston-Salem Journal, 38-year-old Deputy John Thomas Isenhour was directing traffic during an annual bike tour when the driver, Jessie Cook, struck him.

The deputy’s neck, ribs, pelvis, legs, nose and other facial bones were broken in the incident and he was transported to intensive care at a local hospital, where he remained until his passing.

No charges have been filed in the incident, but an investigation is ongoing, the publication reported.

Isenhour had served with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office since October 2015 and was a 17-year Marine Corps veteran.

According to ODMP, the deputy is survived by his wife and children.
