An investigation into the shooting of UCF police officer Mario Jenkins has cleared the Orlando police officer who shot Jenkins of any wrongdoing, the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office said this morning.
Authorities also said they are charging Michael John Young, the man they say grabbed Jenkins in a bear hug during a pregame confrontation between Jenkins and tailgaters. Young, of 3302 Vishaal Court, Orlando, will be picked up on charges of felony battery on a law enforcement officer and a misdemeanor charge for obstructing a law enforcement officer.
State Attorney Lawson Lamar said there is evidence Young knew Jenkins was an officer during the confrontation, but Lamar would not say when or how Young learned this. Law enforcement officials arrested Young outside his home without incident about 11:30 a.m. today and taken to Orange County Jail, where he was being held on $3,500 bond
