JANESVILLE, Minn. — Two teens were commended for their efforts in helping subdue a suspect who attacked an officer, News 12 reported.

The teens, Wyatt Stafford and Treven Bobby, were driving when they saw an officer being attacked by a suspect.

“I think the vast majority of people would have just drove by, and not even stopped or anything,” Chief David Ulmen told the news site.

At first, the teens did not understand what was going on and thought the officer was giving the man CPR, Stafford told the news site.

“We didn’t really know what was going on so I came around again, and I saw the suspect kick the officer in the jaw, and I proceeded to get out of my vehicle and help the officer out,” he said.

The officer was attempting to arrest the alleged car thief when the teens stepped in. They were honored with the American Police Hall of Fame award for their actions.

“It’s really refreshing to see that there’s members of the community that are willing to come forward and help police, that’s not always the case everywhere you go,” Ulmen said.
