Police radio traffic and a video taken by a bystander captured the harrowing response to the Saturday assault on the Dallas police headquarters by a man whom relatives say had showed signs of violence and instability for years.
James Boulware was shot dead by a police sniper after an ambush from an armored van that left the station riddled with bullets. The gunman also slammed his vehicle into a police cruiser and planted pipe bombs in the parking lot of the station. Remarkably, no officers were hurt in the ambush.
The Associated Press previously reported that the gunman blamed police for losing custody of his son and for “accusing him of being a terrorist.”
