DES MOINES, IA - A Charles City police officer who shot and killed a resident was absolved of any wrongdoing by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation on Tuesday.

Lt. Brandon Franke was not charged with a crime in the shooting death of David King, 56.

According to a release from the DCI and Floyd County Attorney’s office Franke responded to a call of a suicidal person at 113 Park Ave. Saturday night around 8:30 p.m.

Franke found King in the garage with a car running. King displayed a gun and Franke told him to put it down. King refused.

Franke attempted to stun King with a Taser, but King kept advancing. One Taser round was later found in the door frame of King’s garage.

King then raised his weapon, and Franke fired his gun, striking King twice. King was taken to Floyd County Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
