MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. — An investigation is under way in the death of a Pace University football player who was shot by Mount Pleasant, N.Y., police outside a bar crowded with students.

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Louis Alagno called the Sunday shooting outside Finnegan’s Grill in Thornwood “horrendous.”

The victim, Danroy Henry, was a junior at the suburban Westchester County campus. He was a varsity defensive football player there and was from Easton, Mass.

Police tell The Journal News that unruly patrons had gathered in Finnegan’s parking lot, about 35 miles north of New York City. When an officer knocked on the window of a car, police say Henry, who was behind the wheel, sped off. An officer tried stopping the vehicle but it accelerated and he ended up on the hood.

Two officers fired at the car.

Henry’s parents tell the Brockton Enterprise they want some answers.
