ORLANDO — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was hit from behind while responding to a minor crash on Interstate 95 this morning in Brevard County.
The trooper had responded to the scene and was in his car when another vehicle hit his marked car, spokeswoman Trooper Kim Miller said.
The force of the crash was so intense, the trooper was unable to get out of his vehicle. A secondary accident was caused when the vehicle hit the trooper, causing another five or six cars to crash, Miller said.
The trooper was taken to a Brevard County hospital for minor injuries.
A Palm Bay police officer was also involved in a third accident while responding to the trooper involved accident, Miller said. The condition of the Palm Bay police officer is not known.
Weather was not a contributing factor in the crashes, and driver-error is to blame, Miller said.
Traffic is backed up for several miles, though it is inching by on the far left lane.
