Police fed up with Clinton campaign’s unpaid bills

The department didn’t ask to be paid for everything, just overtime

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — Police departments are fed up with providing service to the Clintons with no payments.

Two departments have provided security services for the presidential hopeful and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, but have yet to receive payment for their work, WHOTV reported.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign told the Des Moines Police Department they’d be happy to pay for their services at a Katy Perry concert last October once they receive an invoice, police told the news site.

However, they sent an invoice dated Nov. 19, 2015 totalling almost $1800.

The Marshalltown Police Department was dealing with the same issue, Chief Michael Tupper told WHOTV.

The department requested payment from the Clinton campaign for services on Jan. 15 when officers provided security for Bill Clinton. On Jan. 26, Hillary held a campaign event with a much larger security detail.

On Feb. 3, Tupper sent a letter to the Clinton campaign detailing charges of both events. When he did not receive a response, he sent out another letter on March 11 for a bill totalling $2700.

The department didn’t ask to be paid for everything, just overtime.

“We have limited resources here,” Tupper said. “This money is coming out of the city of Marshalltown general fund. The taxpayers of Marshalltown are covering these expenses and we just don’t have the kind of unlimited resources that one might expect to cover these unexpected events.”

Donald Trump held an event on Jan. 26 as well, and the cost for the department totalled $3,600. Trump’s check arrived March 11.

“In my 23-year career, the Trump campaign actually paying this large bill is the first time that’s happened to me,” he said. “I’ve been doing this job for 23 years and quite honestly the Trump campaign actually reimbursing for these kinds of expenses is the first time that’s ever happened to me in my entire career, with one exception.”

An event by Bernie Sanders in January was paid up front, Tupper told the news site.
