WESTON, Wis. — The daughters of a fallen detective are keeping his memory alive through their own community service organization.

Anna and Ella Weiland - along with their mother Kara - worked with their teacher, classmates and community members to launch the “Be Amazing” campaign in honor of their father, Det. Jason Weiland, WSAW reported. Weiland was fatally shot while responding to a domestic dispute in March that killed three others.

“He loved making people happy and laugh, and just having a good time and that’s what it’s all about, having a good time and smiling,” Ella said.

Anna said the idea came after she spoke at her father’s funeral. She left the crowd with a sentence of hope: “All the amazing people in the world will always outnumber the criminals in the world.”

The girls said their organization has four core values: love, respect, honor and integrity; all values their dad instilled in them. They hope to inspire others to do positive things in their community by providing funding to make those ideas possible.

“Serving, just like my Dad did, he loved doing this for people, knowing that he was helping the community... and we’re helping the community as well, so serving is awesome, amazing to do,” Ella said.
