NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Police officers from ten different agencies around Massachusetts gathered at a restaurant to celebrate a soon-to-be 12-year-old’s first real birthday party.
Logan Pearson, who lives with severe autism, has had quiet, low-key birthdays in the past, according to CBS Boston.
“As far as his birthdays in the past, they’ve always been a sad quiet day,” said Logan’s mom, Catherine.
Catherine posted a message to Facebook asking for cards to recognize her son’s birthday, saying that because he doesn’t speak, his special day is often looked over.
“So will you go right now and grab a piece of paper and write Happy Birthday Logan- from your FRIEND — in Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii… Etc? I want to make a birthday card book for him. Help us celebrate Logan’s birthday! Feel free to share this,” Catherine wrote.
Cambridge police officer Steven Bikofsky was shown the Facebook post by his girlfriend, and decided he wanted to help celebrate, according to the report.
Cruisers surrounded Logan’s family’s vehicle as they escorted the Pearson’s to a Fuddruckers restaurant in North Andover.
“It just exploded into this police escort to just show Logan how important he is,” said Catherine. “I just can’t believe it.”
“When I realized he was in Andover, I knew he was a special boy and I figured we’d do something special for him,” said Bikofsky, who rounded up officers from all over the state to surprise Logan with gifts and cake.
Catherine said she felt humbled by the birthday party 12-years in the making.
