ALBUQUERQUE — An officer was commended for his bravery and disregard of personal safety when he stopped a distressed woman from jumping off an overpass Wednesday, KOAT reported.
Officers Brandi Madrid and John Cervantes were talking to the woman who was contemplating suicide when she attempted to leap off the overpass. Cervantes grabbed her before she was able to let go.
“Due to these officers’ actions, they were able to save this woman’s life and ensure she receives mental health services,” the department wrote on Facebook.
Cervantes is no rookie to saving lives. In 2014, he suffered burns after rescuing a woman from her burning car.
