ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Ellensburg Police Department is accepting applications for this year’s officer reserve academy, according to a news release. The program trains and equips state-certified reserve officers to work as volunteers with full-time officers during general patrol duties and assist school resource officers.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens, over 21 years old, have a valid Washington driver’s license and a high school diploma or equivalent. They’ll also have to pass a written test, psychological evaluation and polygraph examination.
Candidates must successfully complete the 249-hour state reserve officer training academy and a field training program.
A 16-hour-per-month minimum commitment is required upon completing the program.
Ideal applicants are able to operate typical office computers and equipment, speak and write effectively, use sound judgement under stress, solve problems using deductive reasoning and understand and follow complex instructions.
Reserve officers must deal with a wide variety of people in their work, people who may by under stress, have emotional or mental disorders or are impaired by drugs or alcohol.
Candidates must submit their application by March 8 to the Ellensburg Police Department at 100 N. Pearl Street.
