LOWELL, Mass — A 26-year-old Tewksbury man has been cited in connection with a June 30 accident that injured a Lowell police officer who was escorting a funeral procession on Nesmith Street.

Officer Charles Manousos was driving a police motorcycle at about 11:20 a.m., leading a funeral procession to St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury, when he was struck by a 1999 Ford F-150 truck driven by James Berry, of Tewksbury, near the intersection of Nesmith and Oak streets.

Manousos was treated at and released from Saints Medical Center in Lowell. He has since returned to duty.

According to Lowell police spokesman Capt. Randall Humphrey, Berry has been cited with interrupting a funeral procession, failing to grant the right of way, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, and failing to proceed safely after stopping at a stop sign.
