KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City motorcycle police officer was reported in stable condition Wednesday after a collision with a car in Raytown. A citizen used the officer’s radio to alert dispatchers. A Kansas City motorcycle police officer was injured Wednesday when his bike collided with a car in Raytown.
The wreck occurred about 12:45 p.m. near 63rd and Hadley streets.
Kansas City police Sgt. Bill Mahoney said the officer was westbound on 63rd when an eastbound Toyota attempted to turn onto Hadley. The officer couldn’t avoid the car, struck the front end and was thrown.
A citizen used the officer’s radio to alert dispatchers, sending dozens of patrol car and motorcycle officers to the scene. Police escorted an ambulance carrying the injured officer to the hospital.
“The officer is in stable condition and talking, so we expect that he will be OK,” Mahoney said. “Initially, he was unconscious.”
An officer on her way to help the motorcycle officer was injured in a wreck. She was driving east on Gregory Boulevard with lights and sirens on when she crossed U.S. 71 and was struck by a northbound car.
Police said the officer had the right of way because of the lights and sirens, but the other driver had a green light.
The car struck the cruiser on the passenger side. The officer suffered a possible arm fracture.
After hitting the cruiser, the northbound car hit two other westbound vehicles.
