When removing a person who is wearing a seatbelt from a vehicle, remember to go over the top of the belt. If the officer gets into a struggle with a subject and the belt is released, the officer is trapped as well. Whatever control hold he or she is using will have to be released to free up the officer. Possibly the fight will be on again. Always make the subject release the belt so the officer can maintain his control hold. It is easy to get caught in this situation. I did. Hopefully this will spare someone else an unnecessary headache.
