FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. – Police arrested a suspect in the shooting of a sheriff’s deputy Tuesday after an hours-long standoff.
According to the Fresno Bee, deputy John Erickson, 49, was shot while responding to a call of a property dispute. He is currently entering surgery and expected to survive.
Erickson managed to return fire and protect a civilian ridealong who was with him at the time of the shooting. The ridealong was not injured.
The suspect, who police have not named, opened fire at officers responding to the scene. Police surrounded the suspect, who later surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
