AUBURN, ME — A man suspected in the fatal shooting of a woman this morning is holed up in a house near the Minot town line.

A State Police tactical team is at the scene outside the Minot Avenue home and attempting to contact the man with a telephone and megaphone. Police believe the man shot and killed a woman in the driveway around 10:30 a.m.

“We are attempting to make contact with the man who we believe is involved in the shooting,” said Steve McCausland, spokesman for Maine Department of Public Safety.

McCausland said media reports that the man was at-large are false. “He has not been at large, he has been inside the home,” McCausland said.

About four to six neighbors were evacuated from the neighborhood in a state police armored vehicle.

“We believe that all the neighbors have been evacuated, that they are safe,” McCausland said.

Police have not released the identities of the victim or the suspect. McCausland said police believe the two people knew each other. He would not comment on the type of weapon used in the shooting.
