HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police say a shooting incident inside Greenspoint Mall this morning may have been a murder-suicide.
Two people were pronounced dead inside the mall after police responded to a burglary call about 9:46 a.m., said Houston Police Department spokeswoman Johanna Abad.
“The threat inside the mall is over,” she said.
Two SWAT units that happened to be in the area responded to the incident because it dropped as a burglary call, Abad said.
Police later determined the shooting at retail store was most likely a murder-suicide.
Mall employee Deborah White said she was about to raise the security gate that covered the Ashley Stewart store where she worked when a security guard ran down the mall corridors, pounding on gates and doors and telling everyone to evacuate.
“I just left my coat and got out,’' White said. About a dozen people left the mall with her, mostly store employees.
