HOUSTON, Texas — After a nearly two-hour standoff involving SWAT officers, police took six men and a woman into custody Saturday for allegedly kidnapping another man who they said owed them money for drugs.

Shortly after the unidentified man was kidnapped from outside his home in the 8400 block of Detroit around 7:15 p.m. Friday, kidnappers began making ransom demands to the man’s brother, Houston Police Department spokesman Victor Senties said.

The brother contacted police, who tracked the kidnappers and victim at a southeast Houston duplex in the 2900 block of Lidstone, about five miles from the man’s home.

SWAT officers, who were called to the scene around 2:45 a.m., were able to negotiate the release of the abducted man, Senties said. He was taken to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Around 4:30 a.m. SWAT officers persuaded six of the kidnappers to come out of the residence, Senties said. A dog from the K-9 unit was sent into the duplex when one man refused to leave.

“He (dog) bit the guy, and that’s how they were able to get him out,” Senties said, adding that police are still questioning the suspects.
