BLOOMFIELD, N.J. — En route to the hospital, a baby girl couldn’t wait to see the world and was born on the side of Belleville Avenue. Thankfully, she had the help of Bloomfield emergency services personal.

Mother Maryiri Tejada and baby Genesis are doing fine, police said.

Bloomfield officers Robert Estelle and Julio Lopez played an instrumental roll in helping Tejada deliver a healthy baby girl at 7:55 a.m. Saturday, July 14.

The two officers helped with the beginning stages of birth before EMTs Alex Burde and Chris Landers showed up to finish the job, police said.

Units were dispatched to 122 Bellville Ave. at 7:46 a.m. on the report of a mother in labor, according to the police report. Officers arrived to a scene with Genesis was on her way, head first.

After birth, police escorted an ambulance with mother, daughter and father Luis Pimentel to Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge.

To commemorate the occasion, Tejada met with some of the emergency services personnel for a small get-together Monday morning to trade stories.

Bloomfield Police Chief Christopher Goul awarded the four men commendations, according to Sgt. Anthony Servidio.
