FBI Enters Case of Stolen Fuel Tanker in Texas

The Dallas Morning News

SOUTHLAKE, Texas -- A tanker truck carrying approximately 8,500 gallons of gasoline or diesel was stolen early Thursday after its driver was beaten.

The tanker was found abandoned and empty around 9:30 a.m. at a Fort Worth business, said Southlake police Lt. Ashleigh Douglas. The FBI has entered the case because of the potential safety and terrorism issues involved.

“Obviously, there’s no indication at this point that it’s anything other than a robbery, but it does raise concerns of things other than that as well,” Douglas said.

A suspect took the tanker around 2 a.m. from a Southlake fuel terminal in the 2400 block of State Highway 26, police said.

The suspect struck the driver, a 30-year-old Arlington man, as he got out of the truck, Lt. Douglas said. The driver was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. His condition was not available, officials said.

Police are searching for the suspect.
