Attack Planned For This Summer, Officials Say
WASHINGTON -- U.S. officials have obtained new intelligence deemed highly credible that indicates terrorists in the U.S. are preparing to launch a major attack this summer.
A senior counterterrorism source says the intelligence is among the most disturbing received by the government since Sept. 11, 2001.
But the source says the intelligence does not include a time, place or method of attack.
The official says al-Qaida or some other terrorists may possess and use a chemical, biological or radiological weapon that could cause much more damage and casualties than a conventional bomb.
The official described the intelligence as “a steady drumbeat of information that they are going to attack and hit us hard.”
