VALLEJO, Calif. — A Vallejo man shot in the abdomen early Sunday morning is expected to survive, police said.

The victim told police that he had left a party on the first block of Rodgers Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. and apparently tried to get into the wrong car, Vallejo police Sgt. Jeff Bassett said.

A suspect, whose description was not provided, allegedly shot the victim, Bassett said.

The victim’s friends attempting to take the man to the hospital were stopped by police at Redwood Parkway and Sonoma Boulevard at about 2:09 a.m., Bassett said.

The suspected shooter was reportedly last seen driving off in a “newer and dark” sport utility vehicle, Bassett said.
