SWEET HOME, Ore. — Linn County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 34-year-old Sweet Home man Wednesday night after he allegedly led police on a chase in which he rammed multiple cars, damaging five vehicles and injuring three police officers.

Police responded to a report of a man who was seen spotlighting deer near 25700 Old Holley Road in Sweet Home just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The caller told police that he warned the man not to shoot the deer, and the man allegedly asked the caller if he should shoot him instead.

When Deputy Corey Putney arrived, he found Joseph Arthur Williams, a transient whom he recognized from a previous incident. While questioning Williams about poaching deer, Putney asked the suspect to remove a large hunting knife from his waistband and place it on the ground.
