QUINCY, Mass. — Police are searching for a man who tried to rob a Quincy woman who turned out to be an off-duty MBTA transit police officer.
Sgt. Michael O’Shea said the attempted robbery occurred just before midnight Wednesday in the Quincy Shore Drive area of North Quincy.
The transit officer was on her way home when a man in a minivan tried to steal money from her. She was wearing a jacket over her uniform. When she identified herself as an officer, the would-be robber got back in the van and drove away.
The officer followed the man in her own car until he abandoned the van on Old Colony Avenue and fled on foot. Police were quickly at the scene with dogs, but the suspect escaped.
O’Shea said the van wasn’t stolen, and that the investigation is continuing.
