JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Police recently posted photos and names onto Facebook of two women charged with misdemeanors.
Police Chief Tommy Thompson wrote a post about the pair’s misdemeanors, and then a second post that included their photos and identities after commenters asked for the information. The public claimed they were worried the suspects were potential shoplifters.
Christina Lynn Barksdale, 26, was in court for a hearing on a prior shoplifting charge. She and her friend, Andrea Kristin DeCarlo, 20, were both visibly intoxicated at the courthouse, according to Thompson.
Barksdale was then caught stealing from the courthouse bathroom, and charged with theft from a public building and public intoxication.
The chief said Facebook is a public forum, and he wanted to keep people informed of what was happening in their town. It is protocol to post felonies, but Thompson said he will continue to post misdemeanors if they are out of the ordinary, according to the Anniston Star.
