Bomb Explodes in Pierce County, NE Sheriff’s Vehicle

A homemade bomb was detonated in a Pierce County Nebraska Sheriff’s vehicle Tuesday morning. The explosion happened sometime between midnight and 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect targeted what was once the personal patrol Bronco of Pierce County Sheriff Rick Eberhardt. He began using a different vehicle about a month ago. The bomb shattered the windshield of the unmarked cruiser. No one was hurt. Experts with the Nebraska State Patrol’s bomb unit were called in to gather evidence. There are no suspects yet.

Police1 notes that Law Enforcement vehicles and infrastructure are high visibility targets not only of Islamic terrorists, but also domestic terrorists, anarchist types and those with grips against Law Enforcement and the government. We remind officers to be aware of similar types of threats and to establish procedures for securing your department’s physical plant and equipment.
