Police in Kalamazoo, Mich., say a Chicago police lieutenant has been arrested and charged with the sexual assault of a gas station attendant.

Sgt. Paul Erlandson, of the Kalamazoo Police Department, said 41-year-old Denis Patrick Walsh, of Chicago, was arrested on Aug. 26 and charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to police, Walsh was intoxicated when he allegedly assaulted a gas station clerk at a service station on Aug. 17 at 2:40 a.m.

The 28-year-old clerk called police.

After an investigation of the incident, Walsh was contacted and turned himself into police.

He was arrested and charged and later released on a $1000 personal recognizance bond. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Walsh was honored for heroism on the Chicago police force in 1997.
