Police1 Staff Report
(BROUSSARD, La.) -- A police chief being investigated for allegedly accepting bribes died after shooting himself in a local cemetery, authorities said.

Broussard Police Chief Irvin Flugence was found mortally wounded inside a patrol car in the graveyard at about 4 a.m. Saturday and later died at an area hospital.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office would only say that Flugence was shot and there was no indication of foul play. Lawmen told Police1.com that they have yet to rule whether the shooting was an accident or suicide.

Published reports stated that Flugence had been under investigation for allegedly mishandling DWI cases and taking bribes to reduce the charges. No charges had been filed against the chief.
