Mich. Woman Shoots Three People, Dies in Shootout With Police

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (AP) -- A woman shot three people, one fatally, and later died in a shootout with police, authorities said.

Police found Marie Ann Gendron, 42, of Iron Mountain, dead in a house late Wednesday afternoon. She had been shot several times in the head, chest and leg, said a statement issued by Dickinson County Prosecutor Chris Ninomiya and several police agencies.

Gendron’s 14-year-old daughter, Cora Jean Gendron, and David Raymond Grable, 20, were wounded but survived.

Grable was listed in critical condition at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis., The Daily News reported Friday. Cora Gendron was treated at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Witnesses identified Gayle Marie Price, 48, of nearby Vulcan, as the shooter, the police statement said.

Three sheriff’s deputies and a state police trooper spotted her in the parking lot of an apartment complex there. She ignored their orders and began shooting a .38-caliber handgun. Officers returned fire, killing her.

None of the police were hurt.

Numerous weapons and ammunition were recovered later from Price’s apartment.

Price was evicted about a month ago from a residence down the street from the house where the three people were shot, said Tonya Collins, the landlord.

“There were numerous disputes between Mrs. Price and the Gendrons that were primarily over their dogs,” Collins said.
