CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - A Clovis police officer and his wife were killed in a traffic crash on U.S. 60-84 between Melrose and Clovis, state police say.

Boden Garrison, 35, and Amanda Garrison, 39, died Wednesday morning, Lt. Jimmy Glascock said.

Garrison was driving a motorcycle and his wife was on the back when they went onto the shoulder of the road, trying to pass a tractor-trailer, Glascock said.

The motorcycle hit an unoccupied flatbed truck parked on the shoulder, and the Garrisons were thrown from the motorcycle and into the path of the tractor-trailer, Glascock said.

The Garrisons were then run over by the tractor-trailer, Glascock said.

Garrison had been a state police officer before joining the Clovis Police Department, Glascock said.
