NYPD Testing New Assault Weapons

The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Police Department’s elite Emergency Service Unit is testing a new assault rifle that officers call more powerful and accurate, according to a published report.

The unit, which is called in to handle situations requiring special equipment and training, is testing the Colt M-4 .223-caliber rifle as a possible replacement for the older mini M-14 rifle that’s currently in use, the New York Post reported Thursday.

Officers told the Post that the M-4 has proven more accurate, powerful and easier to handle than the M-14.

“It would certainly help us in our war against terrorism,” one ESU officer told the Post.
