Obituary: retired Massachusetts lieutenant, 62

(HAVERHILL, Mass.) -- Donald L. Sott a retired Massachusetts State Police lieutenant and private investigator, died Nov. 21 at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. He was 62.

Born in Detroit, Mr. Sott moved to the Lawrence area when he was young and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1958. He graduated later from Massachusetts Police Academy in Framingham and then received an associate’s degree from Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill.

Mr. Sott served in the Naval Reserves.

He worked for the Massachusetts State Police for 20 years, retiring in 1982 at the rank of lieutenant. He worked later as a private investigator.

Mr. Sott was a private pilot and had been a member of the Massachusetts State Troopers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Beth E. (Bernier) of Haverhill; three sons, Laurence D. of Litchfield, N.H., David M. of Lawrence and Mark J. of Haverhill; a daughter, Justine of Haverhill; a brother, Walter E. of Lawrence; a sister, June Frechette of Lawrence; five granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Nov. 25 at St. Michael’s Church, North Andover.

Arrangements were by John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, North Andover.
