TORONTO, Canada (CP) -- One man is dead after he was gunned down in a confrontation with police Saturday evening and a police officer was in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the arm.
Police said they were called to the scene in northwest Toronto early Saturday evening after reports of threatening behaviour.
A man armed with a shotgun fired, striking an officer in the arm. A second officer returned fire, mortally wounding the suspect, police said.
Paramedics at the scene pronounced the suspect dead.
No names were released Saturday.
The Toronto homicide squad and the province’s Special Investigations Unit were on the scene late Saturday.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit investigates all cases where there is death or injury involving police.
