Secure your ‘tools’ at home

We talk quite often about securing your firearms at home. But don’t limit the lockdown of your “tools of the trade” and ensure they are all well secured in a good-quality safe. A Chicago-area police officer recently returned to his apartment to find it being burglarized by a neighbor.

After spotting the thief through the window, the officer was able to snag him as he bolted out the front door. A pair of handcuffs was taken and a gun safe had been damaged.

This is a good reminder to be sure that things like body armor, guns, handcuffs, batons, TASER, law enforcement ID — anything you would never want a bad guy to have — are very well secured in your home.

Cops’ homes can be considered gold mines for bad guys, both those who know you’re a cop and break in for that purpose, and those who randomly break in.

For that thief who randomly selected your house, rather than thinking “Oh ____! I just broke into a cop’s house! I’ve got to get out of here! ” they might just think “Awesome! I just broke into a cop’s house! Where’s the cop gear?!”
