Single officer patrol tactic: Use your voice

In a tip a couple of weeks ago, I shared the idea of using the sound of two closing car doors as a trick to convince the occupants of a stopped vehicle you’re about to approach as a single officer that you’ve got a partner. You could add another wrinkle to that tactic which might enhance the deception. As you’re about to approach the vehicle yell something out as though you’re talking to that fictional partner. Even if the subjects don’t hear a “reply” in such a fake conversation, you’re still keeping them stuck in the Observe and/or Orient phases of the OODA Loop.

Remember, when you’re out there on single-officer patrol, even the most silly-sounding thing might give you that one fraction of a second you need to keep the tactical advantage.
