Madrid, Spain (AP) -- Police arrested a Russian woman on arms trafficking charges after she was found in possession of 38 pen guns, officials said Thursday.
The tiny weapons are used by crime gangs as discreet forms of self-defense, often when they attend meetings with other groups, said Ester Aren, a police spokeswoman.
“You see these kind of things a lot in the movies, but it’s true,” Aren said.
Police arrested the 27-year-old woman Tuesday. They did not give her name but said she was part of a Russian and Kosovar weapons-running ring.
Police also seized 99 ammunition cartridges designed for use with the pen guns.
