GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Federal marshals on Friday arrested in West Virginia a man wanted in a shooting this week that wounded a Greensboro police officer.

Ronteze Andrew Deloatch, 22, was apprehended in Morgantown, W.Va., at 3:20 p.m., said Rich Carleton with the U.S. Marshal’s Service in Greensboro.

Deloatch faces an attempted murder charge in the shooting of Officer Daniel W. Knott during a traffic stop Wednesday night.

Deloatch, who was shot in the neck, was in stable condition Thursday at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. His condition wasn’t immediately available Friday night.

The suspect had been the target of a citywide manhunt in Greensboro on Thursday night, but “the intelligence gathered directed” law officers to West Virginia, Carleton told the News & Record of Greensboro in a report on its Web site.

Police said the officer stopped a gold 1994 Buick LeSabre for a minor traffic violation in Greensboro late Wednesday night. A passenger in the car fled and the officer gave chase. Shortly afterward, the suspect fired a gun, hitting the officer, according to police.

Deloatch was one of three people in the Buick. Police have not filed charges against the other two.
