Ithaca, N.Y. — Ithaca police Saturday morning discovered an active, one-pot methamphetamine lab inside a backpack.

Police were called to the railroad bridge near the 200 block of South Fulton Street, an area known as the “Jungle,” around 8 a.m. after a passerby reported seeing a suspicious backpack.

When officers arrived, they discovered an active, one-pot meth lab inside the backpack.

A one-pot meth lab is a rudimentary methamphetamine making operation that involves mixing components in a single container, such as an empty soda bottle, to create the drug.

The New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team and Ithaca Fire Department also responded to the scene.
